Winter dark meets LUMINIS

When the long Nordic nights roll in, Egeskov Castle becomes something truly magical. Nestled in the Danish town of Kværndrup on the island of Fyn, this 16th-century moated marvel is one of Europe’s best-preserved Renaissance castles — and every winter, its historic walls play host to something a little more futuristic: LUMINIS.

Now a beloved annual tradition, LUMINIS is an immersive light festival that transforms Egeskov’s gardens into a glowing wonderland during the winter holidays. Since 2015, audiovisual wizards Dansk Video Center (DVC) have been the creative force behind the spectacle, delivering sound, lighting, and video wizardry that brings the grounds to life after dark.

This year’s theme? Stargazing. And with over 4,000 dazzling LEDs woven through the trees and paths, lasers slicing through the cold night air, and snow machines adding a frosty flourish – the results were truly out of this world. Mirror balls scattered light across hedges, interactive sensors reacted to passing visitors, and the sound of the cosmos filled the air.

At the heart of the magic was ENTTEC’s award-winning ELM pixel mapping software, used to orchestrate the entire installation.

“It must be said that integrating ELM with hardware using both Art-Net and DMX was really easy once we understood the menus!”

… said the team at DVC. A glowing review, quite literally.

With vibrant LED displays washing the castle’s façade in rich colour, and garden paths leading guests through an interstellar dreamscape, Stargazing proved once again that winter nights and clever lighting make for a perfect pairing.

ENTTEC are proud to have played a small part in a big Danish tradition – one pixel at a time.
