Lighting the way for a safer city
King Street Mall in Rockdale has undergone a vibrant transformation, turning heads—and brightening evenings—thanks to Bayside Council’s bold revamp, shaped by the community itself. At the heart of this revitalisation is a dazzling display of colour-changing festoon lighting, powered by ENTTEC’s cutting-edge LED control technology.
Guided by community input as part of the NSW Government’s Safer Cities: Her Way initiative, the upgrade focused on improving safety and inclusivity around transport hubs.
Now, with freshly pruned trees, relocated and replanted greenery, and sleek new street furniture, the once-ordinary mall is anything but. It’s a welcoming, well-lit space designed to make everyone feel safer and more at home after dark.
The lighting installation, featuring a mix of DMX and SPI protocols alongside both wired and wireless connectivity, was made simple by sourcing all equipment from a single supplier: ENTTEC, of course!
A series of OCTOs were used alongside a STORM10 to control the LEDs, featuring shows played back through an ENTTEC S-PLAY show controller.
Installers praised the streamlined process, and the results speak for themselves – an inviting, colourful canopy that adds charm and character to the heart of Rockdale.
From a simple stroll to a late-night bite, King Street Mall now offers a safer, brighter experience for the whole community—proof that smart design, strong partnerships, and community voices can light the way forward.
