Smart infrastructure for sustainable developments

ENTTEC delivered the perfect networking solution for Ghaf Woods, Dubai’s first forest living community. Spanning 3km, the installation used key ENTTEC products—including STORM 10, DIN Ethergate Mk2, and S-PLAY SP1— and a fibre optic backbone to manage DMX and architectural lighting across roads, landscapes, and the sales office.

In the heart of Dubai, where urban innovation meets natural serenity, Ghaf Woods emerges as a pioneering residential development by Majid Al Futtaim.

Spanning 738,000 square meters and home to over 35,000 trees, this “forest living” community promises air that’s 20% cleaner and temperatures up to 5°C cooler than its surroundings. But beyond its lush landscapes, it’s the thoughtful integration of lighting that truly brings this vision to life.

Lighting a 3km expanse is no small feat.

The challenge lay in ensuring uniform illumination across diverse zones—landscaped paths, car parks, roads, and office exteriors—without compromising on aesthetics or functionality. ENTTEC rose to the occasion, crafting a centralized control system that harmonizes every light source, ensuring a seamless experience for residents and visitors alike.

At the core of this lighting solution is a high-performance fibre optic backbone, recommended by ENTTEC to interconnect every lighting component on-site. This infrastructure supports DMX RGBW and tuneable white luminaires, RGBW pixel-controlled fixtures, and integration with third-party lighting control systems.

The benefits are clear: long-distance performance without signal degradation, immunity to electrical interference (perfect for outdoor and mixed-use zones), and the bandwidth to support advanced lighting effects and future-ready smart integrations.

Early specification of the right controllers and gateways meant the procurement process ran smoothly, reducing delays during installation.

The ENTTEC hardware included 3 x STORM 10 units for controlling DMX lighting across landscapes and roads, 5 x DIN Ethergate Mk2 units to manage architectural lighting around the sales office, and 3 x S-PLAY SP-1 show controllers to automate and schedule lighting cues. Everything is linked through a centralized network switch and fibre backbone, simplifying programming during both the construction and post-handover phases.

Ghaf Woods exemplifies how lighting, when thoughtfully integrated, can elevate more than just visibility—it shapes mood, safety, sustainability, and the entire spatial experience. It’s lighting with purpose, and a blueprint for future-forward community design in the UAE.
