About

What are LED Dimmers?

LED dimmers are essential components in any LED lighting system. In essence, they are responsible for providing the necessary power that LEDs need to shine safely and efficiently. Because LEDs require specific electrical conditions—either low-voltage, constant-current electricity or fixed voltage—the dimmer adapts the power from a source to match the precise needs of the LED system.

Unlike regular power supplies, LED dimmers do more than just deliver power —they protect LEDs from fluctuations in voltage or current, preventing performance issues or damage that could shorten their lifespan.

At ENTTEC, we offer two types of LED dimmers to suit different setups: constant voltage dimmer and constant current dimmer. As a result, they ensure steady, uniform lighting across the entire strip, making them perfect for applications like home lighting, accent illumination, large scale installation and even architectural displays—anywhere you need reliable, consistent light.

On one hand, the Constant Voltage dimmer directly supports constant voltage (CV) LED strips. Meanwhile, the Constant Current dimmer powers high-output LED fixtures that demand a fixed current.

Constant Voltage Dimmer.

Constant voltage LED dimmers like the CVC4 act as an LED dimmer controller that turns on and off the voltage at a very high speed to dim the lights – they do not limit the current or voltage. Instead, the current is limited by the LED strip itself, and the voltage is set by the power supply used.

Typical applications:

Architectural: Under-cabinet lighting, accent lighting, or architectural designs.

Signage: Widely used for illuminated signs where consistent lighting is critical.

Decorative Lighting: Suitable for spaces requiring uniform, steady light output.

Constant Current Dimmer.

Constant current LEDs are designed to operate with a fixed current (measured in milliamps, e.g., 350mA or 700mA) rather than a fixed voltage. In these systems, LED dimmers ensure a consistent current flow through the LED circuit, while the voltage can vary depending on the load or number of LEDs connected.

Typical applications:

High-Power LED Fixtures: Such as spotlights, downlights, and floodlights.

Architectural and Stage Lighting: For uniform illumination and high-quality colour rendering.

Specialized designs: Used in scenarios where thermal management and longevity are critical.
