Strengths
- Single-wire, data-only wiring keeps installs simple: one data conductor per run with no separate clock line to route, terminate, or fault-find, which lowers cabling cost and eliminates the clock as a failure point.
- Integrated RGBW control with a dedicated white channel (8 bits per channel) supports cleaner whites and pastel mixes than an RGB-only pixel, while the wide 5 to 24V range allows higher-voltage runs that reduce voltage drop and copper over long lengths.
- Supported across ENTTEC pixel controllers (OCTO 71521, PIXELATOR MINI / MK2 70067/70068, DIN PIXIE 73539, and PLINK Injectors), which drive a wide range of pixel protocols; contact ENTTEC about any chip not listed.
Limitations
- 1000Hz PWM is comfortably flicker-free at the rated 33fps capture, but it leaves limited headroom for faster camera work; broadcast or slow-motion shoots may prefer a higher-refresh part.
- No redundant or backup data line: a single failed pixel or broken data joint blanks everything downstream, so plan for accessible spare pixels and reliable connectors on long runs.
- As a self-clocking single-wire protocol the bit timing is tight and sensitive to cable length, signal integrity, and 3.3V-to-5V level shifting; long data leads may need a buffer or a data injector to stay reliable.
Overview
The TM1824 is an addressable RGBW LED pixel driver using a single-wire, self-clocking data protocol in the WS2812 family. Each node integrates its own controller, latches 8-bit-per-channel data for red, green, blue and a dedicated white, then forwards the remaining stream down the chain. It operates across a wide 5 to 24V range and drives PWM at 1000Hz, which is comfortably flicker-free for capture up to 33fps. There is no redundant data line, so every downstream pixel depends on the node before it. ENTTEC is not affiliated with Titan Micro Electronics.
